Depression

Depression is characterised in many ways but is clinically defined as a mood disorder which causes an individual to have a constant feeling of sadness. Symptoms of depression vary, the most common are:

  • Sadness

  • irritability

  • Exhaustion

  • Anger

  • Loss of interest in hobbies

  • Sleep (too much and too little)

  • Frustration

  • Lack of energy

  • Craving Unhealthy foods

  • Increased Alcohol or drug consumption

  • Anxiety

  • Isolation

Depression may also be caused by live circumstances such as grieving the loss of a loved one, or stresses from work or finances. Genetics can also play a role in why someone may be depressed. Low chemical production, such as having low levels of serotonin (the happy chemical), can be a factor in depression. Serotonin is responsible for keeping us happy, regulating sleep patterns and digestion, if someone is not producing enough serotonin this may cause depression.

  • How can we help?

Solution focused psychotherapy can help depression as it encourages individuals to work out solutions without dwelling on traumatic experiences or event. Hypnotherapy will encourage relaxation, by using positive suggestions the subconscious can make great alterations to behaviours and emotions. In sessions we will focus on improving confidence, self-love, self-esteem, optimism and more! Typically 6-8 full sessions are required.
